Mira Tassone, LCSW, Psychotherapy and Counseling Methods & Therapies, Westchester County, NY
The following methods and therapies of psychotherapy and counseling are based in extensive training and applied according to patient needs, always with an approach of mindfulness and multi-cultural awareness.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),
NY and CT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychological treatment that has been found to be effective for relieving and coping with a broad range of problems, from anxiety and depression to drug addiction and eating disorders. CBT is a continuous process of applying research and clinical experience to improve effectiveness and relief for all therapists and patients.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on Three Core Principles:
-
Psychological problems can result from faulty or unhealthy ways of thinking.
-
Psychological problems can result from learned patterns of unhealthy behavior.
-
People with a broad range of psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, relieving their symptoms and leading productive lives.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), NY and CT
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a non-pharmacological, meditation-based therapeutic approach to relieving a broad range of conditions, including stress but also other chronic conditions such as anxiety, depression and chronic pain. MBSR therapy may involve a combination of meditation, body awareness and exploring patterns of behavior, thoughts and feelings.
Multi-Cultural & Culturally Informed Therapy, NY and CT
Also called "Culturally Sensitive Therapy", Multi-Cultural & Culturally Informed Therapy can employ other effective therapies (such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), but the therapist focuses on understanding the patient's background and belief system. This understanding can relate to a virtually endless range of identity-based variables, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or combinations and other sources of identity that haven't yet developed.
Solution-Focused Therapy,
NY and CT
Also called "Solution-Focused Brief Therapy", or SFBT, this 'modern' method of therapy is positive, goal-oriented and future-focused, concentrating on solutions rather than problems. Since this approach is goal-oriented, it is generally "short term" (in a defined period), using positive psychology principles of hope, planning and motivation to desired changes in behavior.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, NY and CT
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) addresses the suffering from trauma, often early trauma that may be suppressed (hidden) and needing discovery. Post-traumatic stress and mood disorders can result from a broad range of traumas, such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, violence or grief. Non-offending family members or extended family and relations may be consulted, to piece-together the nature and details of the trauma.
